i use red seaweed with garlic to help the immune system, but i have been talking with a reef buddies and they are trying out this new stuff called purple algae and they swear by it. one of my friends said that there tang gets so full on it that it eats very little of the food he puts in for the other fish he has in the tank

I had a yellow first, and then added a hippo. It was a little tense the first day, but mostly posturing and no real fighting. Since then, they are inseperable.

My hippo is about 5" long now, and yes very prone to ich. I found that adding Selcon to the food has really helped.

tank size is an issue with tangs. if you are under 100 gallons, be prepared to donate one back to the LFS when they outgrow your tank.

Also, FWIW, tangs can get to be decades old in the wild, like 20-25 years.

I got a blue tang and yellow tang at the same time. Never had any issues with either of them as far as aggression....they get along fine. The blue tang caught ick after a few weeks. I added a UV sterilizer and started feeding nori with garlic and it was cleared up in about a week or two. Haven't had any other issues since. They love to graze on the seaweed and also devour any type of food I add to the tank. Beware, they GROW. My blue tang was smaller than the yellow and is already doubled in size and surpassed the yellow (~6 months). And definitely very personable! They'll be needing a bigger tank by the time I move and can upgrade.

    Hope this helps:)

easy to care for and pretty peaceful guys. but they are grazers so try to have some of that veggie food that you can clip on to the side of your tank that they can eat between feedings. also they should typically be kept in a 60+ tank with lots of space to swim. i love mine and my clown and hippo are bff!

with most tangs, 4' foot or wider tanks are recommended. they like to swim left to right and right to left. small ones will do fine in a smaller tank, just will outgrow it eventually.
