Update-- he is doing great. He eats anything I put in the tank. I did notice that his belly started to look a little less full so I started to hand feel him Krill and that seems to be working. Right now he is wasting krill, pellets, Mysis shrimp.. He has not bothered any inverts yet.. Still trying to work upmthe nerve to try a cleaner shrimp. An article in Coral Mag claimed that it can be done as long as the trigger is well fed.

I have 2 cleaner shrimp in my tank, my trigger pays no attention to them except for when he goes to them for cleaning.

I had a blue throat for a long time very successfully with two cleaner shrimp. However I added a blood red shrimp which was immediately hunted until it was dead. I am not sure if it was the bright color of the blood red shrimp or if it was the fact that it was added after the blue throat. Either way I loved my blue throat and he would also eat straight from my hand. A great fish. Mine only ever bothered shrimp, wouldn't touch snails or crabs.

I believe, for the most part, as long as the shrimp are well established in the tank BEFORE you add the "reef safe" trigger then you should be fine. I'm not sure where you guys got the idea of "reef safe" because in my opinion a reef safe fish doesn't go after any inverts.

There are pictures of my Blue Throat on the first page of this thread. I love this fish but man can he eat. I hand feed him krill everyday and he also eats when I feed the tank.. Problem is the he has gotten thinner, I think from before I realized his feeding needs, but I am having trouble fattening him back up to where he was.

Hey Everyone, I just added a large cleaner shrimp in with the trigger. Will let you all know how it goes. So far so good. My hope is that if I continue to feed him well that he will ignore the shrimp and go for the easier meal I am providing.
