I picked up a Blueface Angel and a Coral Beauty the other day and had a couple of questions.

The Blueface won't eat anything I put into the tank. This includes formula 2, 50/50 from H2O, brine shrimp, and mysis. He does however pick at the live rock all day. I turned a few of the pieces over to expose large pockets of sponges, in anticipation of his arrival. Is it fine that he just picks at the rock or should I be worried he hasn't eaten? He doesn't seem stressed and is out most of the day.

The Coral Beauty is a pig and eats anything and everything.

    Thanks.

Is he an adult? If he is he will learn from your other fish what food is. Do you keep zoas and palys? LPS, like acans and chalices? You want to keep him well fed or he will eat those corals, especially if he is an adult. If he doesn't eat in a few days, go to the grocery store, and buy some shrimp, scallops, and blend it up, I would bet he would eat that no problem. Once he is eating, I don't remember ever having a problem weening one to pellets, like Formula 2. Good luck, they are one of my favorite fishes.

^^^ Good advice. Personally, I quarantined my Blueface to make sure he was eating properly. They can be a little on the shy side. As long as you are feeding the tank a variety of foods, he'll eat when he is hungry enough. Watch him carefully from a distance when you feed to see what he eats. They can be a little picky at first, but they won't starve themselves like some other fish, IMO.

He isn't a full adult, but is changing. I will try the food suggestion and hope that works. I have about 80 lbs of old rock and about 90 lbs of new rock. He picks at the old stuff so I hope he is getting at least some food.

    Just to update...

I have now seen him eat something. It wasn't anything frozen or live, but it was of all things seaweed on a clip! I watched him from my dining table today eating tons of the brown seaweed. I should of known he was because it seemed to go quicker than normal, but every time before now I only saw my Foxface eating it.

Anyway I hope this starts him on the road to eat a variety of foods.
