True. I hope they all pull through, I'd say they will be fine though. I'm gonna siphon out all I can & change the filter pads. Hope this wasn't all for nothing...

    Pic update feb. 15

Well here is the pic update on Feb. 15 after 7 days of no lights. Most of the algae is gone but not all. Still 1000X better, now it is just a matter of CUC keeping up. I turned my actinics on today but I think I am going to turn them off for a couple more days to try and kill off the rest of it. I just siphoned the rocks twice to get all of it I could off of there. Feel free to comment anyone, for some reason it seems that a select few will comment on a tank thread but everyone will comment on a general post:confused:

Compare to the previous pics I posted of the algae at it's worst!

Definitely looks better than it did. I hope that it works out for you.

Well, the pics aren't great I'm sure you are used to that from me:p! If you compare the current pics to the ones I posted before you can tell a huge difference. A lot of the algae has died off completely, and before the algae was an inch long, now it is more of a fuzz. Roger said to leave the lights off for up to 10 days, so I am turning them off again for a couple more days and see what happens. If this doesn't do the trick I may move my corals over to a 30 for the time being and tear down the 55...

It looks better then it did during the IRC Meeting we had there. About ready for a Tang in there to eat some algae.

I lost the last fish in late December and Roger said I needed to wait 3-4 months before I add another fish to let the oonidium cycle through and die off. So I am still a minimum 1.5 months away before any fish additions:-/ But a new tang will be my first addition

    Update time...

    Here are some updates...

The GHA is slowly returning after the blackout almost wiped it all out. I think I am going to cut my lights for a day or two and keep doing it as needed till I can get a tang or other algae grazer in there (another month minimum till oonidium has ran it's course). I have been running Rowaphos for several months now. I have new MH bulbs. Phos is reading 0 and nitrates are less than 5. TDS is 0.

The SPS have RTN WTH!! With all the changes to my tank lately with fish dead in December, several large water changes, lights out for extended periods, some sort of bacterial bloom that clouded the tank and happened twice with my lights out, etc. it is amazing they lasted as long as they did. Luckily it was only a couple that all came off of 1 frag that Scott gave me. Maybe his tangs will make some more frags for me when I am ready:-/

So that is the update... wish I had better news:-/... can't wait till I can get something in there to graze on the algae and hopefully keep it under control... trying to stay optomistic in the meantime...

Hey, that looks like one heck of an improvement! But if the algae is taking off again you might want to consider getting a sea hair(not sure if the oonidium can get them...?) and I would imagine turning your lights off for that long would be bound to have a negative, but in the long run it is for the best, do you know your water parameter's by chance? Do you have any other corals in there that are still thriving?

    How old are your bulbs?

Are you keeping your Alk up at 14dKH?
I'm thinking you must have bought liverock previously from a poorly filtered FO tank and they are just super absorbed full of nitrates and phosphates to feed that algae.
    Hope things get better.
