I just found out thanks to madlarkin that my male mantis is a female and she just laid a brood of eggs! ;D

So now I need to come up with another name for Bob...but hey the site of it is worth it!

I know that they are not fertilized as she is the only one in the tank, but how exciting! Besides I have read in the past that mantis are canibals so she would eat them as soon as they hatch!

MOMMY IS SO PROUD....that is until she eats my grandkids!

Now, I am going to sound like your Mom here, but you be extra careful cleaning his tank (her tank....sorry). Where Bob has been cool before, protection will become the rule here. Remember, your fingers are your friends.

yeah...I have decided that I am not going to clean the tank at all while she has them! I am not sure how to proceed here with feeding etc. I know that the last molt she had was really, really rough on her and she almost did not make it, so I fear the stress of this might hurt her.

So I will leave the lights off for a while and try to leave her be for a bit and not look at her every 5 mins

    That's cool Melissa.

Usually you can sex an O.s. by how bright green the exoskeleton is. I was sure you had a male based on that.

anything special I need to do? I am afraid that this is going to stress her too much. Do I continue feeding as usual? (selcon routinly used) I know when I used to breed lovebirds you would have to go in and take the eggs that were not ferilized as sitting on them was stressful (NOT GOING TO DO THAT WITH BOB)

    whoa! Bob is a girl?!?!?!

Also as well as the parents being cannibals the babies are as well and will eat each other. Makes you think about what Bob(bi), Princess, and Fister had to survive since they were born.
