well checked on him last night before I went to bed and this morning before I left for work. He is hanging in there! Last night he was out of his den completely on his back kicking the swimmetes. When he saw my flashlight he did right himself and went into the den. In the den I could see what appears to be a whole empty shell including his swimmettes

Today he was in his den looking at me when I placed the flashlight on him. He didnt back into his den further, but at least he was righted. I hope he hangs in there

He will be getting a bunch of new turbo snails once he gets through this molt (way you spoil a mantis)

For those who dont know...mantis always bury themself in their dens when they molt and dont get on their back. They are extremely vulnerable when they molt (cant defend themself as shell is too soft) so humans dont see them molt. And they definately do not get on their backs to molt exposing their tummy.

glad to hear he is hanging in there. Mr. Fister just closed up all the entrances to his den so I assume he is molting too. Mantis shrimps are so stressful!!!

Thank you for pointing this out. I kept Snuggles, a male O.s. down at the store because all of the customers liked him so much. Schackmel has brought him food and so did many other customers.

I injured my back and was out for a week. Another owner of the fish store read that you should dose Iodine for their health. (Mind you, I live 1 mile away, they know my phone number, they know my email, they know my second cell number, but they decided to dose Iodine because they read something on the Internet but didn't bother calling me). Well, Snuggles is no more....they forced him into a premature molt.

We were interviewed by the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Riverfront Times, and we were named Business of the month by our city. In each of those cases, the editors and photographers used Snuggles as their picture even though we had 850 gallon tanks with small species of shark and 16 inch Queen Angels.

I had been checking on him over the last couple days and he has made it! I have turned the lights back on for the first time today and am going to go to the LFS and buy him some treats (a bunch of turbos for when he is feeling ready to eat)
thanks all for the warm wishes. He scared me this time really bad. That night he was all the way out on his back which is bad. I hope that his next molt goes better, but his last 2 have been very rough

no, that is my old pug, Oscar. I had to put Oscar down about a year ago. The pug in my video is Otis. Oscar was a rescue pug. Pugs are great dogs, but Oscar was the best dog ever!
