I have 55gals of fresh and saltwater about 20 ft from my sump and a valve is all I have to twist to do a water change ! I just did my first Water change in over 20 yrs .. I have had tanks run yrs with a good filtration and carbon and no water changes I do add supplements unless I run a ca reactor no such thing at new water its just filtered and or diluted and treated water . Its all been here since day one .. I just did my first one last weekend , Long story short tank was over ran with Bryopsis Pennita and I was not able to do anything and I have it loaded up with algaecide trying to kill it off I did just change 55 gallons trying to wake this 180 up from a 1.5 yr sleep as I was unable to do anything with it. I know where the algae came in from and I had the healthiest and as nice a looking corals as anyone could have ..there are some photos of it around this site somewhere , A good skimmer and high quality carbon is the key for me.

I like the "twist and fill" method! I do have a valve and about 50 feet of tubing...Hmmmm. Easier than dragging 5 gal buckets across the room! Fortunately, my tank is in the finished basement, with a floor drain about 5 feet away, so emptying the waste water is easy. I'm looking for pics right now on that 180!
