I have had my tank set up for over 2 months now. Out of the blue about 2 weeks ago the male clown fish died then yesterday the female. They showed no sign of sickness and would eat daily. I have a brain coral, xenia, and hammer that are all doing well. All of my inverts are happy and green/white coraline is growing. The only thing is that there are 2 small patches of brown algae on the sand near the rocks. I am once again confused in this hobby.

    Here are my water parameters:

    Salinity - 1.024
    Ammonia - 0
    Nitrites - 0
    Nitrate - 0
    Calcium - 400
    Alk - 9
    Phosphates - 0
    Nitrate - less than 5
    Mag - 1600

I added sea salt a few weeks ago to raise the mag so the calcium could take. Other than that things have been the same.

Its a 29 gallone bio cube, 30 pounds LR and live sand, Sunpod 150w MH lighting. I have a chemi-pure bag with the bioballs.

    Thanks in advance

Do you have any other fish there?

How long did you have the clowns?

And at what point did you put the clowns in?

Your mag is fairly high, I would do a water change to get that down. I don't think that caused it though.
Now, tell me more about adding sea salt? Why exactly was this done? If you're trying to raise magnesium, epsom salts is what you use, not sea salt. If you used table salt (like sea salt), that could have very well been the cause, god knows what could be in it.

They have been in there around a month. Captive breed true oscellaris clowns. Ohh and my tank has been up for 11 weeks not 2 months. No other fish

Captive. I guess I had bought 2 females, but one became the male fairly quickly showing all the signs of changing sex. The male died first then the female. Romeo and Juliet???

Did you dose the epsom directly into the DT?
