HEY GUYZ, I need advice. I bought a nice piece of fiji live rock for a good price today but It has a lot of green hair algae on it. Right now it is just sitting in the box. I don't know what I should do bc I know if I put it in my system now it could spread and become a problem. What should I do? should I kill the rock and re-cure it or should I just put it in the qt tank with no light? till it dies?

you want to "re-cure" it regardless of the algae, having no light is a good idea. i would just stick it in a big rubbermaid container or something, add a power head. if you already have a QT set up you could use that, just leave the lights off like you said and you may way to drape something over the glass to keep outside light from coming in.

well, I put it in my qt tank bc I couldn't just have it there sitting but, does anyone else have any suggestions? I wish I could post a pic but I have no means of doing it right now maybe later 2night. The rock has come coralline algae growth on it but I don't care about that. What I would like to know is how does the green hair algae go away and how long should I leave it in the qt without light before I put it in my main display tank!
