I am brand new to Saltwater and look forward to all I can learn from this site! I got coral from a local dealer and have found some disc shaped things with tentacles (maroon colored) came with it. They quickly disappear into the rock once you go near them. Is this something I need to get rid of? Would like to post pic but not sure how yet.

Try searching for the word "aiptasia". I think this is what you may have.

Being your first post I'll take it easy. But we need to know about your set up. How long been set up, lights, skimmer, params. And most important you should research your coral first by asking the store. Hey what is this. If I really want to buy something without knowing what it is I always take my phone into store with me. Pics goto Photobucket.com set up an account and upload pics then copy link and post here

I don't believe that all of this information is needed for a hitchhiker identification request.

Thank you for the defense amcarrig! Will make sure to add specs to future posts. Looked up the pics and found not to be a preferable feather duster but an aiptasia, and lots of them. Thinking about a peppermint shrimp. I have a 90 gallon reef tank and only have 2 damsels and an oarnge spotted goby, of whom has been making his home for a week, uggghh... and all these hitchhikers. Just starting out like I said and don't want to add expensive fish until back from vaca in August. Took water sample to fish guy and 0 nitrates and all else good but don't trust anyone else to take care of them.
My first inquiry was awesome and got the answer I couldn't find on the net and I thank you all very much!!

Peppermint shrimp are a gamble at best, some eat them, some do not. I would look into getting something like Joe's juice, before they really get out of hand. Good luck!

Agreed. However, if the aiptasia is attached to a piece of rock that the coral is attached to, I would simply remove the coral and throw away the rock. What kind of coral is it?

I have branch rock, I apologize as I misspoke, just have the rock right now, until I get really situated with tank and knowledge on it. I will look up the juice you mentioned as there are about 10 I can see that came with rock. I think it might be cheaper for me to do the juice as they are on multiple rocks. Am going to figure out the picture thing now as I know so little at this point it might be better to show it instead! Thanx guys!
