So i just bought a used 90g, I had the previous owner fill with water before I purchased, it didnt seem to have any issues holding water but the silicone is kind of chewed up around the edges a bit. I was just wondering if it would be recommended to re seal just a light coat of silicone over the current sealant, or leave it alone? ( i was just going to run a bead of ge type 1 w/d over it to seal the chewed edges down)

Don't reseal. Resealing actually means taking the tank apart, cleaning all the silicone off, and rebuilding the tank. The only part of silicone that really matters is the part between the actual panels of glass. The flaky part not on the seam is just fine.

Sounds good thanks for the info. I just didnt like the look of the flaky chewed up part was gonna smooth it over with a bead but i wont screw with it.

Just another thought. I just recently converted from frshwater to saltwater and had my tank tore down and drained. I too noticed some of the silicone in the corners was chewed up a bit, and it bugged me too! I decided to take a razzor blade holder w/blade and cut back, scrape, and peel back, just to the glass seem or edge. Then I used blue painter tape and masked a perfect straight edge on both sides of a corner. Then I used my aquarium sealer and caulked a bead on both sides. I wiped it smooth and even with my finger. Wiped up any overage I got past the tape on the glass and let it set up. Come back and peel the tape and Walaa! A clean perfect seem. It was worth the effort for a cleaner look for me.;D

I decided not to re seal. I let the tank sit over night full of water no leaks. Just curious, if everything seals and what not, is there much chance for a side to rupture? (im paranoid about the tank giving out and losing water due to it being used)

Just try to avoid futher damaging the chewed up areas of the seal when it comes to cleaning it in the future and you should be fine.

I wasn't gentle around the seals on my 90 gal tank when I used a magnetic cleaner and it caused a leak.

If it's good overnight its good in the immediate future.

Keep in mind all tanks have a 'shelf life' when in use, apparently you can often look at the seal to tell a general condition (i'm not an expert there though)...

My girlfriend does servicing and works @ an LFS and she says that the Bowfronts are the worst for lifespan. She sees 40-50% more leaks and breaks in Bowfront tanks vs the standard 'rectangle' tank.

Another thing to ensure is that the tank is level. An Unlevel tank (even if only a 1" difference from one side to other) will put pressure unevenly on the glass and eventually worst case is a complete Shattering of the tank.

    +1

The wave tanks are the worst IMO. We refuse to even order one. We got two in and within a year they both leaked.

So I shouldn't have any issues with a side blowing out or something crazy?
