I'm thinking of starting another tank. I have always loved the box & cowfish. I wanted to know if any of you ever had one of these, the care needed for them to do well, tankmates, and if more then 1 can be housed together?
i know they can get stressed and kill everything in the tank. what is the likelyhood of this happening?

I'm also figuring since they stay pretty small you could house quite a few together if they would be compaible:confused:

I dont have any exp. with these, but a simple search says they are difficult to keep and are poisonous when stressed. They also apparently tend to get rather large, over 12" and i dont think keeping a group would work unless you have a large tank for them.

yeap, they get huge IMO, well maybe not huge but they do get quite big, keeping a group is a bad idea, do some more research on them and see what you can find out.

As has been mentioned, they do get big. Longhorn cowfish grows up to 20 inches and some boxfish can grow up to 6 inches or more.

Either way, a low flow tank is ideal and don't expect to keep any shrimp or worms in the tank with them as they will eat them. Because of their flow and feeding requirements, you'll have to ramp up your filtration.
