    I want to get a brain coral when purchasing one what is the best way to determine you are getting a good piece...health wise?

    Are you looking to buy an open brain or "regular" brain coral?

    It's a metallic green brain, it's an open I believe.

    In that case, as long as it doesn't look shrivelled up or bleached, it should be an ok specimen. Also, check to make sure that none of the "mouths" are gaping and that there is no tissue recession.

    Make sure if their lights have been on for awhile that the corals tissue is puffy and not shrunken down onto the skeleton :)

    green open brains need more light than other brains.just so you know.
