    Yeah, You have your reading cut out for you. A break in "cycle" is to establish bacteria need to neutralize bad things in the water like ammonia and nitrate, nitrite. You need to buy test kits for these as nitrite and ammonia are poison to fish and if you don't have live rock it will kill the fish as it builds up. Here's a link to get you started:

    I would suggest get a couple of books to learn a few basics then come here for more detailed questions.
    It's a great hobby you'll enjoy it. But it must be done the right way.

    Wow, I wish i wouldve joined this forum yesterday! The word cycle never even came up at the store...GEEZ. Thanks for the info, ive learned more on this site in 10 min than a week BS'n with the people at the lfs. Ill take all of your advice, thanks so much.
