Brand new to the hobby and need advice - 75 gal

Yeah, all the troubles and frustrations are worth it now.

 

I picked up my YWG and Tiger Pistol yesterday. I also got some rock rubble and a small piece of LR to put in the tank to try to help with seeding. I got home last night and after dripping in their bag for a while, I scooped them out and poured them in the DT in the area that I had prepared for them. The YWG immediately went under the rock I was hoping he would choose, as did the Pistol. A hermit had taken a liking to the new rock that I had placed for the new additions to make their burrow under. When the pistol went in, he immediately went under the rock and came out with the hermit in his claws and tossed him out. It was the funniest thing I have seen in there so far. I fed the tank this morning before work and the Goby came right out of the burrow that was quite bigger already and started eating. He seemed happy, despite what his constant frown would imply.

Well, We pulled the trigger this weekend and got a Copperband Butterfly. My wife picked one out and we brought it home yesterday. When I went to bed last night it was swimming around checking things out. I noticed it nipping at some of the rocks. Last week I noticed that I had some Pileolaria, so, I figure that's what he was nipping at. That's a good sign from what I read about those fish. I'll try to get a pic up tonight.

 

This is the best pic I could get tonight. Also, I saw him eating pods which is a good thing, based on what I've read about them.

 

I'm a little excited. I watched the Copperband eat at the LFS and I've seen snack on some pods here, but he hasn't eaten any prepared food. Until tonight. When I thawed out the frozen brine shrimp and dropped it in the DT, he went nuts for it. I'm relieved. It may seem like nothing, but to me it's just nice to know he's eating live AND prepared food.

 

Well, I come with bad news. I came home yesterday to find my Copperband sucked to the side of a Powerhead. He didn't make it. I'm saddened and my wife is upset because she picked him out. I don't know how it happened. He was eating well and looked fine. I know this is trivial compared to the losses on the northeast coast due to Sandy, but it's my first loss.

 

i know the feeling i lost my first cb, the one i have now is about a year old and is still looking great. i feed him heavy on brine, mysis, and bloodworms his favorite is the bloodworms and they are high in everything it takes to keep fish healthy. imo they are whats keeping him alive, also my mandarin loves them and he is over 5 years old and lives in a 50g which is said by most to be to small for a mandarin so imo bloodworms are a must for hard to live fish

 

I will be calling the LFS and putting in an order for a Foxface Lo to pick up around Thanxgiving.

 

Be careful with him and corals. Heard they like to nip when they get bigger.
