Yeah, it was a mess. The tank appeared cleanish but once the water was disturbed, you could see absolutely nothing but gunk.

I actually almost bought another piece of live rock today. The price seemed very reasonable ($6/lb w/o a ton of growth and $7/lb with stuff growing on it, such as plants.)

Can I have too much live rock?

Funny you should ask. As many here have seen my tank and others, I like a lot of rock. You could have too much if it is so crowded it is hard for fish to get around. With no fish and just coral, you could put as much as you want with the drawback of displacing too much water.

Is it the hydor in line heater? They don't work well unless there is very little flow through them. I loved my eheim 2213 I had on my 29 for a long time. Worked well. Looking good and congrats on getting your way.

I know-- I get it! I've worked in retail and walked into the LFS making it clear that I understood the retail aspect of his building- hoping he would respect me enough to be upfront and honest. It seemed to pay off, as I was asking about buying live rock and he said not to worry about it at this point seeing as how I had some in the tank already. I also asked about buying an anemone (thank god I didn't!!) but he strongly advised me not to. He was upfront and said clowns didn't need them in their tanks.

I read a little about the clowns and decided to go with that as my first fish. After getting him home, I realized I had no idea what to do!! I've since then researched a ton on clowns, but I have a lot more to learn.

No, it's a Rena. It sits in the tank and my boyfriend is going to attach the intake tube (?) to it. I'm not exactly sure why, but I trust that he knows. He's maintained successful fresh water tanks for years.

The intake to the filter? IF you are hooking it up to the filter put it on the return side of the filter.
