    HI Everyone,

I am just starting out with this hobby with absolutely no prior knowledge-other than what I have read so far and discussed with my Dad. He is the impetus behind this new hobby. He has had saltwater tanks in the past and just recently got back into the hobby with a nano tank that he is keeping stocked primarily with corals. Well once I saw that tank I thought is was absolutely awesome and I started asking all sorts of ?'s and mt Dad was so excited that I was into a hobby that he loved, my step-moher has gotten into, and that was related to natutal science. (He is a scientist himself and it has been his disappointment over the years that I lived with my Mom growing up and my interests laid more in the arts than in the sciences-so he jumped on this!) Anyway he came to my house Thursday to present my with an early birthday present- a Red Sea Max tank and stand! I have finally gotten everything up and running tonight and put my water and salt in-basically that is as far as I know how to get so far! So when I stumbled across this forum I knew it would be a great resource for me. I know I will be asking tons and tons of what may seem like silly questions but I am truly learning as I go along! Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Keep an eye out for some guy calling himself Matt... real trouble maker that one. ;D

I'm more of one though. My server tinkering used to give Matt no end of trouble... he was the most reliable indicator that I had done something bad and I'd hear from him in minutes. ::)

Biggest tip I could give you right now: Don't do what I did... you don't need sacrificial lambs in your tank right now... they WILL die. (I had one survivor - still in my tank to this day, everone else... died... twice... because I didn't plan) :-[

Buy a basic salt water chem set, (PH, Alkalinity, Ammonia, Nitrate - There are sets that come as one box like that) and a log book (a regular notebook is fine - I use an excel spreadsheet) to keep track of the chemistry levels and tank maintenance.

PLAN your tank... don't impulse it. It's a lot less expensive (though it may sometimes seem otherwise) and a lot less heartache. :(

Buy goggles, and gloves if you plan to have corals... many of them have NASTY poisons, and you don't want to find out the hard way how allergic you are, or how toxic the poisons are. The forums here are littered with stories of people getting sprayed in the face.

    Welcome to the hobby. :goldfish:

Welcome to 3reef and the saltwater world.

There are no silly questions.....only unasked questions which you may regret not asking in the first place.

There is a plethora of knowledge and experience in here. Feel free to ask anything.

Your dad should also be a great resource being a hobbyist himself.

    Welcome again!

Thanks for the welcome-my first question

Thanks for welcoming me- I apreciate and I am so glad I stumbled across this site. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem I am having with the tank (it is a 34 gallon tank btw). I posted this in the fish tank forum but I will put it here too. I am having problems with thousands of tiny bubbles in my tank. The seem to be coming out of the power nozzles circulating the water. I have referred to the RedSea Max website and tried their recommendations to fix this but it keeps happening. Any thoughts or advice?

    Thanks
