i cant even guess how many times i've done similiar things over the years! so lucky not to have burned a house down yet, at the risk of sounding ignorant... wait for it to dry off and plug it back it in!;)

    Sorry to hear.

Glad nobody was hurt. You should now have the receptacle replaced with a GFCI as mentioned above. You might consider replacing the circuit breaker, too. Finally, when you attach the pump to the return line, be sure you're using the proper size hose barb for the line you're using. You might want to put the end of the tubing in boiling water for 30 seconds, slide it on, then immerse in ice water. Be sure the hose is pushed on as far as it will go.

We learn through these experiences. If there's any guarantee here--you won't have this happen again! :)

Thanks Sparky! Great idea with boil and ice water...my LFS actually made the joint for me, but it just goes to show no one is infallible.

I appreciate all the responses. I am very thankful for no one being hurt. It could've been a lot worse.

wasn't tank related but my funnest electrical experience was with our dryer. A buddy of mine got to it before i and tore it apart to discover that the belt broke. I was the one that put it all back together however, he neglected to tell me he disconnected one of the power leads. Went to shove the thing back against the wall after i was done and it jostled that loose wire and created an arch welder. i jumped back so fast! scared the hell outa me! burned a nice hole through the back though.
