    Greetings!

Does anyone happen to keep these? Every time I mention them at the reef store I get "the look" and asked why I have the nasty things . I can only guess that there is a lot of misinformation out there about them. I have kept them for years with no fatalities of fish or other corals. What I would like to do is to get them to breed by budding. Has anyone been successful doing this? If so, did you do anything in particular to faciliate it?

    Thanks for the help!

Do you mean, getting it to split by stressing it? Do you have another pic?

i've asked this question myself although about a different anemone, everyone pretty much agrees that cutting it in half with a razor is the only gaurranteed way, unless they are like an aiptasia, in that case i.m.e. the best way to get them to reproduce is to try to kill them! while if you leavem alone they usually justgrow

Thanks for the responses. I had done some research on them and ideally they are to reproduce by budding. Maybe in the wild but not in my tank and I've had them 4 years. I would try cutting one in half but I am afraid it would die. I ripped one in half once while moving it and neither 1/2 lived. Maybe a smooth razor cut causes less damage? I don't have any more pictures as that one is the only one that looks semi decent. I put the camera to the glass and I get bombarded by fish.

I asked questions at the local fish stores etc... and they tell me to flush them because they are like aptasia: breed out of control, move around stinging everyone and eat fish.
Poor guys have a bad rap.

    Thanks for the help!

you have to cut it exactly in the middle so that eat half has a mouth

good luck and welcome to 3reef

Missionsix..........Just did a re-read. Stressing them? Maybe this is why they aren't breeding. No need to. How would I stress them?
