What are some of the brightest LEDs available for sale right now? I'm thinking about replacing my halides.

Single 70 Watt Cree XRE, but to my knowledge only available to industrial/military/NASA. Cost mega bucks.

As for fixtures, heh, I would wait a year- then this fiasco over patents and copy rights will be over (hopefully).

It all depends on what your definition of what brightest is. Overall light output or depth penetration? Some fixtures go after penetration with narrow angle optics/reflectors to narrow the beam (Orphek PR-156 older Aqua Illumination units, Maxspect with optics), some go after spread by choosing to go without optics or wide angle optics (Boost MU-135, Orphek PR-156w, Ecoxotic Maxspect without optics, Vertex Illumina). One fixture uses a combination of both wide angle orptix and narrow angle optics (Aqua Illumination Sol). It all depends what you are looking for.

"Brightness" usually refers to relative luminosity, or how bright something appears to the eye, which has nothing to do with how effective it is for illuminating coral.

What is your application and species kept?
