Calling on the experience of the masses as usuall. what stops people from breeding brine shrimp in a refugium? Im thinking about throwing some eggs in a small compartment of my fuge to see what happens. Is there something obvious that says it wont work?

I suspect that write up was done for those wanting to keep brine shrimp just as a pet, as in "sea monkey".
First of all, it's not wise to allow cysts or hatching water to contact your aquarium water as they are known to harbour nasty bacteria that can, and sometimes do, wipe out a tank.
Brine shrimp are unable to swim where they want, if there is any water motion, as in a refugium, and food density will be unable to be maintained as the food they would feed on would be flushed into the main tank with the return flow water.
If the refugium has amphipods or mysids, any brine still in the refugium would be food for them.
While it has more information than you probably want, here is a site from the Artemia Reference Centre at the University of Ghent that contains accurate information on brine shrimp.

(this is a United Nations site that is often down for maintenance. if so, try again later, or another day)
