I got my live rock from a tank break down in my area. It's great stuff but it seems that it has come with quite a few bristleworms. Most seem to be small and from what everyone says they seem to be no problem...........,however, last night I spotted one that looked like a small snake. This thing was the size of a pencil . It kind of freaked me out! I don't have much in my tank so far but I haven't seen my Emerald crab or Sallie LightFoot in weeks. Any possibility this work could be responsible? Do I need to get this thing out and how would I go about doing this?

On a better note, I got my first fish this past weekend.......a false percula ;D . He seems to be doing great so far!

Well as far as the emerald crab, I had one hitchhike on one of my corals, and have only seen it once since then and its been almost 2 months! Bristleworms are fine but one that big...I personally would feel better getting it out if it was my tank. I have no idea how, though.....

I had a bristle worm in my tank and it was around 12inches long!! I saw him one night swimming about and it freaked the fish out...me as well! It was easy to get rid of him, once he was out and about when the lights were off, I scooped him out with a fishing net. Job done!

Are you sure that it's a bristle worm?

I dont know if that was a response to my post, but it looked more like a worm than anything else! It was grey in colour and its mouth looked just like a bristle worm.
Mind you they can grow upwards of 25inches, or so they say!

I asked the question because there are a variety of marine worms that get very large. One of these worms is the coral eating Eunicid worm which has found its way into many reef tanks and they can get extremely large. You can read about one reefer's adventure with the eunicid here:

That was a nasty looking beasty! Fortunately mine was fairly thin and no where near as mennacing as that.
Maybe it could of been one of those worms, either way I feel more comfortable knowing it is not in my tank. Better to be safe than sorry.

Try to get a shot of it or search the net for a picture and compare. You never know, it could have been a peanut worm stretching, just make sure.
