Brittle Sea Star

    Hello we are new here but I have a question. Our Brittle Sea Star has lost all of the little spikes on it. any suggestions?

    This question is probably beyond the scope of most of us.

    There is a person here with a username of Ophiura. PM her, she's an expert on opuiroids.

    Hi and welcome to 3reef first and foremost!
    Can you take a picture of this?
    Are you sure that you don't have a Serpent Sea Star instead, which do not possess these these spikes or podia!
    Also not all Brittles possess these podia which are sensory organs as oppossed to being employed as locomotion and feeding purposes.

    here are a few pictures. we just found out the calcium is to high also. And the Sea Star did have spikes on it. we just noticed yesterday that it lost all of them.[​IMG]

    Green, bright yellow, and red brittles need to be target fed or you will start finding your fish missing. Read this article. aquarium

    Yes, that green brittle start should have spikes on it. How long has your calcium been high? Inverts especially sea stars are very fragile when it comes to changes in water chemistry.

    They might simply be adpressed which would explain the lack of spines.

    I believe the calcium has been high for a few days now. But everything else is normal
