    hi all
    i got a brittle star on sunday (15.02.09) it lost 4 logs to day its only been in the tank 3days any one no why this is happening and dus this meen its dieing. am gutted its only been 3 days.

    Legs? I believe thats how brittles reproduce (Asexual)... loses a leg which then becomes another brittlestar...

    Definite possibilty. They go through sexual and asexual reproduction. Also, they can be damaged in capture. My coral banded shrimp had to grow back it's two main pincers when they got damaged by the move.

    Just keep an eye on it and see what happens. BTW, what are your nitrates at?

    Could mean its reproducing, but I would be surprised to see it reproduce so quickly in new surroundings.

    My guess is it's dieing. Check your parameters something is off.
    Generally, some part of the central disc needs to be present for regeneration...

    if you have any lobsters or pincher baring hunters they find brittle stars yummy. and they wait till night cause they know your watching......lol at least my lobster did but did not do to much harm and know they live on oppisite sides of the tank..... i did not know about the reproducing part. thanks for the info k+
