Hello everyone, I have a question...I recently purchased a new filter online...it's an odyssea CFS 700 canister.....it was brand new but when it came in the mail the canister part had a huge crack in it....I can pay for return shipping and possibly get a new one but seeing as it's probably something that happened while it was in transit the company that I ordered it from probably will not replace it and I did not purchase insurance through UPS so no luck there either....so my question is if anyone may know how to seal this crack in the acrylic so that it does not leak....does anyone know of anything that I can put on the crack to possibly repair it to make it in running condition i currently am running a filter that is no where near what i need to have on this tank so i need to get my new filter up and running ASAP so if anyone has any suggestions of what i might be able to purchase to fix that problem I would greatly appreciate the input....thanks so much

You could try to repair this crack yourself. I wouldn't. First I would get a hold of the company you bought that canister from and let them know what happened. If they don't feel like helping you out at least your not any worse off. If you touch that canister with any solvents to try and fix it before they hear about it I guarantee you they won't take it back. All other options aside, if it really is acrylic, you can get weld-on (it comes in numbers which basically denote consistency. low numbers low viscosity) that will soften the acrylic and allow you to reseal the seam if you can band the canister together for a bit. If it's just HDPE or some other hard plastic i'd go get 2 part plastic epoxy. It's made for plastic and the stuff is awesome. A little of that along the crack and band/tie the canister to hold it together. Depending on the pressure that things operating at it might hold. I'd send it back in just because I wouldn't want to come home one day to figure out my masterful epoxy job has failed and I have soaking wet floor to deal with suddenly. Good luck though. Hope it's helpful.

I wouldn't run it. Do what you can to recover your loss. Then order a new filter that isn't an oddysea, as everything that company imports is cheap Chinese junk. Just my two pennies.

If you bought it from AquaTraders, they will definitely replace it. At least the canister itself, or the entire thing. Shoot them an email or call during business hours. I find their customer service to be great. I ordered a light fixture from them once, and when I got it two of the bulbs were shattered. They sent me new ones within a few days.
