Ocean Runners are a good pump But I'd look at a Mag 9.5 for your 55 smaller foot print and easier to maintain we have several skimmers with Ocean runners and they are a ***** to get restarted when the power goes off to do some work on the pumps it takes a bit all they do is set and rattle .. New impellers and all.. A Mag 5 on a 55 is just to small.. As for figuring the GPH and Overflow for your tank ?

I don't under stand the GPH is the pump and overflow is dictated but the max the pump can deliver and not over power the drainage design to the sump from tank. Its not confusing really most people like to make it sound like that . Its just a fish tank. :) Now to design a water delivery or drainage for an Apt. complex or 20 story office build thats confusing :)
