It's almost like all my live rock and now sand is turning brownish. What is going on with this?

    New tank, I presume?

Either a cyano or diatom outbreak.

    Pics might help . . .

Yes is a new tank, it's brown, on my rock, my sand, and now my glass!

How do I get rid of it.?

It's common for new tanks to go through a Diatom bloom. It'll go away on it's own in a week or two.

I have my 2-250watt MH come on for just 2 hrs a day and the 2-54watt T5s stay on for 6 hrs. I want to starve the algae out with light, would I be able to just turn my MH off completely and just stick with my T5 for a week or two?

It's not going to matter much what you do, it will go away on its own soon. This is a great time to learn patience and let the tank do what it does.

can it also cause ammonia spikes? My tank is doing the same thing just over a month being set up. The ammonia levels don't really go below .25 the highest being .50.
