brown algae

I am getting a brown algae bloom, kind of slimy stuff, I have done a 10 % water change, I have new LED lights and I am wondering if the bloom is from the lights or water?

 

Are there bubbles in it? Does it start small in the day when the lights first come on and then grow the longer the lights are running? Does it look like snot?

 

Algae problems are usually caused by aquarium water with excess nutrients like phosphate, nitrates etc. In the long term you may have to examine how you care for your tank. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with little if any NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin will really help too. Adding a phosphate remover, increasing flow in your tank, adjusting your tank's photo period or replacing old bulbs may help too.

I think it might be my lights I have new LEDand I am probably running them to long, If I just turn off my light for a week will that clear it up

 

Yeah. But once you turn your lights back on, with each passing hour, the more and more they will come back. By hour 10, your tank will look just like it did a week ago.

 

ok tonight will be water test night and a shortened light cycle to start, I will make adjustments after that Thanks

 

Is there anything that will eat this junk or do I jus=t have to let the conditions improve to kill it
