Brown algea help

    I have a ugly brown mat like algea on my sand. How do I get ride of it what is it from

    Is your tank fairly new? I think it's probably diatom algae, and that usually happens in a new tank because of all the silicates. It usually dies due to starvation once the silicates are gone. I had it in my new tank and it all died after about 3 weeks.

    If it's not a new tank, then I'm not sure what it is or what it means...

    i agree probably diatom, i have it on my rocks and sandbed also

    my tank is almost 2 months old i have had this stuff befor and then it gos away. the blooms usally pop up every time i encrease my light by a hour
