Hi couple weeks ago i put in pure white sand into my tank. And recently I noticed my sand is becoming more brown and brown. What could be causing this? Is this an algae or something?

yup, best way to get rid of all that is get a dragon goby there cool looking and fun to watch them basically eat ur sand and filter it back out through their lungs.... (thats what i did) lol

That just means its aging. No sand can stay completely white in an aquarium.

+1 for the goby. i had a diamond goby since the beginning of my tank and he kept it spotless. he committed suicide about a month ago and the sand is too much for my nassarius snails to keep up with. they are a hoot to watch dig and tunnel. make sure your rocks are all secure or they will start an avalache

Diatoms would be my guess. Will go away eventually, especially if you have a good CUC.

yeah, all sand sifters are "jumpy" by nature, i'm told. i had Moo Shu in there for about 5-6 months and never saw him more than 6 inches from the bottom, until that dreadful day (my first loss). everyone i've talked to said they all just jump.

p.s. today i cut up an egg crate lid and bought another diamond goby. Caboose is currently getting acquainted to his new home

yea definitely diatoms are you conditioning tap water for your tank? i found the best way to keep algae out of my tank is to use seachems phos guard. thing works like a charm, you just put them in a fliter bag and stick it in your filter/sump. works amazing
