    So yesterday one of my turbos died and now since that has happened the trail from the other snail is leaving my sand brown... is that normal or is that something else???

    yes it is two days over a month with no fish just 8 lb live rock..turbo 8 hermits...sand...10 gallon...

    its normal for a new tank to get alage blooms first you get brown alage called diatoms that covers everthing then you get green alage and after that you might get a redish color alage on your sand.

    oh ok all part of cycling then. So should i get another turbo to replace the dead one. Also how do i clean the sand??

    if that was your only turbo then yea go ahead and replace it. to clean the sand buy a sand cleaner or just turn the sand overSiphon Kleen thats what i use and it works just do it when you do a water change;)

    Just leave the algea, with a good cycle and good water params it will go away with time. I have found that cerith snails work well for any brown algea.

    Leave things be, your tank will undergo a number of changes this early on in its infancy.

    I would not touch the sand. A good clean up crew should take care of that.
