    Hi all
I have a 6x2x2 reef tank with refuge filter
my back wall is rubber type which was growing full with coraline algae
but has since started to get over grown with a brown/dark green seaweed type algae think it is possibly due to light change halide to T5. also just started to get some red slim cyno last couple weeks
Can someone ID the brown/dark green for me thanks.
    Pics attached

I do have a slight po4 and slight nitrate both lowest reading on my test kits but no more than usual The tank was running at a higher ph for awhile before i realised but is right now with KH9deg. Cal450. ph8.4.

I have the same brown but prior to the brown gunked up like that it was brown long hair algae. Did you notice any long hair algae? Do you have any blue leg hermits? They will eat the brown long hair algae....If thats the case....

what is the texture like? any pics of it pulled but under water? the dry pics can be misleading...looks like one of the lobophora sp. but only 60% at best on that...

    Hi Guys
    Thanks for the quick replys
No i never had any long hair algae first but i think john might be right with the lobophora sugestion, I googled it and think it may be it. Quite a few tankers have had an issue removing it but it seems after much reading the best way is with a Blonde Naso tang. also possible unicorn or lipstick tangs.
I will post another pic as requested.
    And post results.
Again thanks to all who replied much appreaciated.

manual removal works best, it is a little difficult, it gels, but I wouldn't bother with a fish, unless you were going to get the fish anyway. They are unreliable. Certain fish (from the same species) will eat it some wont. For example, I got a thing for angelfish, almost all will tear up any species of caulerpa, laurencia or dictyota I put in front of them. Google it though and nothing at all will eat caulerpa...just one of those thngs it depends on the foods the fish was raised on, and what occurs natuarally in their range as they develop a taste for the checmical detterants in the algae. Urchins and emeralds will eat it, they can be picky too. If it is on the back wall - razor blade is where I would be going, just don't scratch it all up. :)

    Hi
    Thanks again for the advice.
The algae weed is mainly on the back wall which is a sculptured rough textured rubber type material glued to the glass, so removal would be impossible without removing the back wall which would mean emptying the tank.
So think i might look for the blond naso tang and give it a try.
Possibly take some weed to the store and see if the fish will eat it before i purchase worth a try.
    Thanks again.
