So I picked up a BRS 2 part kit last week. I got it in the mail on 4/25 and testing my perimeters.

    Alk - 7 DkH
    Cal - 420
    Mg - 1200

From what i've been reading online you should dose all three at the same time? My alk is low so I wanted to bring that up to the 9 dkh range. So i've been adding the amount based off BRS calculator into the tank. I've got the alk up to 8 now.

The calcium has been within the range a lot feel acceptable so I haven't dosed any of that.

I just tested today and my perimeters are:

    Alk - 8 Dkh
    Cal - 420
    Mg - 1100

So... should I be dosing alk until it gets up to 9 and mg till it gets up to 1350? Then dose all three depending on how much is used up per day?

Sounds like you've got it pretty much nailed down. Just dont raise your DKH too much in one day.

Do not dose all at the same time.

calcium and alkalinity need to be dosed at different times or you will get a snow storm. Also how are you dosing?

Well I haven't dosed calcium yet just alkalinity. I've been putting it directly in my sump. I do not have dosing pumps, that is something that is on the "buy" list for the future once I get more stocked up.

So since my calcium is alright, and alkalinity is almost to where I want it should I be trying to bring magnesium up? I did the BRS calculator last night and to bring it up from 1100 to 1300 it's saying I need to put 52 oz in. Is this right? Seems like a lot to me.

You only want to increase Mag 100ppm per day. So cut that in half at least. And yes, depending on what Mag you are using and how big your tank is, you could very well need 52 oz. I used Kent Marine Tech M on my tank.

52oz could be right, how big is your tank? I have a farily large system (about 300 gallons) and minimal adjustments of mg and ca can take several hundred ounces.

Thanks for the info on only increasing mag by 100 ppm per day. That was my next task to do today and look that info up.

My total water volume is slightly more then 110 gallons. I figured it was right when it said to put 52 oz in but that's one of those things I wanted to make sure before I did it. Better safe then sorry.
