I am hoping that when smaller pellets and larger ones are mixed together that the smaller ones may rise to the top of the heap so to speak. I am a little nervous that pellets may escape over time but if they do they will still be contained in the reactor.Even if this only works for a few months IMO it is still better then having to constanly scrub that dumb screen.;D
I am also contemplating adding a second layer of mesh on the bottom slightly offset to help keep them contained. I will update this thread periodically.;)

When I was researching mods for pellet reactors, alot of people used the mesh screen, with no complaints over time. Worst case scenario, it allows the tiny pellets into your system to sit somewhere and be consumed by bacteria.::)

Agreed. However I don't think they can reach the top screen so them being realeased into my system doesn't seem possible. If anything they will get into the reactor chamber from below and not be able to actually get into my sump.;)

So far my mod has been absolutely great. I opened the reactor for the first time yesterday and while the mesh was a little dirty it was by no means clogged. I scrubbed it with a toothbrush and put it back online.:2thumbsup

Vinny did you purchase the specific BRS Bio Pellet Reactor or the standard reactor? I see they have a difference in price on their site so was curious about this.

Also if you are concerned about particulates escaping I would suggest using another BRS reactor with some sera wool/filter floss on the output of the reactor.

It was a Bio pellet reactor that I modded. The whole reason for it is it doesn't clog up. Adding floss defeats the purpose.;) I don't think they will escape.

How is the mod working for you now?? Has it cut down on the cleanings?? Also what brand of pellets are you running? I noticed they were larger than what the NPX were..
