Anyone have experience or recommend this? BRS always seems to have postivie reviews so I'm assuming this would be a quality buy? The product review board is down right now so I can't check if there are any formal reviews...

My algaes(s) refuses to fully subside. Phosphates read zero but I'm convinced it's only b/c they are being used up first. A reator seems to be a logical purchase at this point.

    Any other recommendations welcome too.

    we talking Hair algae here?

I am not familiar with the BRS - can't comment

I like Rowaphos in a canister...I am certian it will eliminate your phosphates in no time flat.

They are nice, but the nextreef mr1 reactors are nicer IMO.

BRS seems to have the best prices for reactors and their supplies.

You need to control both nitrate and phosphate to keep algae down. If you are using frozen food then it needs to be rinsed before you feed. High quality carbon helps bring nitrates down but needs to be changed every 2 weeks because the pores fill with bacteria and start creating nitrates. Change filter floss weekly. Make sure you do not have any dead spots in your flow because this allows detritus to settle and start producing nitrates. You may need to cut back on how much you feed.

A refugium with cheatomorpha algae can also help if you want to avoid chemicals.

No, more like cyano... I had bad bubble for a while, but I've got that almost completely gone through manually removal and/or extremely elevated MAG levels.

I do plan to use Rowaphos, I've seen that highly recommended more than once:)

Ok – then I assume you are all over the excess nutrients, DOC’s, nitrates etc. I think with Rowaphos in a canister you will be set.

Nitrates are steadily b/w 5-10. I do rinse my frozen food now and drain the water prior to feeding. I've also cut back the amount I feed as well as how many days a week I feed (a little more than every other day). I also have 15 mangroves that have rooted (most of them) in my sump - don't have space for a true refugium - just mangroves suspended over some live rock. The dead spots I'm still working on...I will probably replace my evo 750 with another 1050, however I'd like to have a wavemaker so that the heavy flow is constant at all times. I also run carbon in a small bag and do change every 2 weeks, if I can remember....

    Thanks for the tips though;)

Getting your nitrates down to 0 to 2 range will definitely help with the algae also. It sounds as though GFO is your best bet.

I use a BRS reactor and run carbon and GFO. For the money, I think it's a good reactor. I don't have any experience with other brands, but I can't really complain. It's messy to change, but I'm sure they all are.

That is a pretty sweet looking reactor....

Do you use one personally? Any problems / what pump do you use with it?
