Another method for all algea removal is to turn all lighting to the tank off for 2 days. I have heard that it kills alot of algea and weakens bryopsis enough to pull it out by hand.

With this algae its like impossible to pull it we had a small patch and once its disturbed any little speck that floats away will catch hold somewhere else. Its a algae from hell I had dealt with it before in other peoples tanks But never in my own.. The Boss here had a patch on a scroll coral.. I tooth brushed the area with kalk paste and then dabbed the spot with bleach and water and I saw no signs of the pest and in less then 2 yrs its back with a vengeance nothing eats it as it will kill them . The High P.H and DKH I maintain is what slowed the growth and spreading of it for so long I think and And when I added the new P/M Bullet 3 it sapped it a little more and now I have been hitting it with the Kent's Tech M and 1600 PPM for the last week that has had more effect on it then the Magnesium chloride did or the mixed Chloride /sulfate in the sea chem magnesium stuff.

All that being said if I where you I'd get me some Kent's tech M and turn the skimmer up so it will skimm more of a wet foam or fomay liquid then then get thr P.H up.. That is if its bryopsis for sure..

The Higher Epsom salts magnesium at 1500 ppm for a few days weakens it enough to make it float off of the rocks in mats But it just spreads . You have to kill it and thats not easy its doable but you have to do it and that takes diligences and time.

Nemo...while there is a lot of great info given on this subject (bryopsis), we can not determine if that's what you have unless you post a very close up picture of your algae. One of its characteristics is that looks like fine leaves of a fern. Here's a few pics of bryopsis for reference.

That's not it. Mine is more fuzzy looking and it's hard to grip it and pull as it's more slimy like seaweed.

You probably have beard algae .. How many snails do you have ? and did you get the NO3' issue under control ? how about phosphates ? And skim it like crazy. Also get the Caand carbonates up igherP.H will kill the stuff off along with a good skimmer and not Phosphate loaded frozen food's

I gotta get more snails, hoping to get some today as the store near my home has a crappy selection of snails. My nitrates have been at zero, my phos might be up so I plan on picking up some phos remover today. It's gonna be an expensive outing for sure.

In your tank about 150 is what you want for snails and to 10 hermits. I have always tried to average about 4 to5 snails per gallon of tank size and about 1 minimum and 2 max. for hermits per gallon I try to keep as few hermits as I can.. I never trusted any crab I have seen them all eat what I paid good money for when they got hungry .
