Do not have any in my tank and cant seem to figure out if this in fact a pest or an ok algae to have. A local shop has a coral tank with a small frag of blue snowflake polyp and some zoa polyp on it that I am interesting in picking up ( only 3 bucks!) but they have bryopsis in the tank. Not sure if this is in fact what it is it is what the store owner claims it to be. Looks green and kind of stringy with small bubbles on it.

Should I get the frag and place it in my tank or am I risking some nasty algae issues? They used to have a yellowtang in the tank until someone bought it and it did eat whatever algae this is ( was none noticeable in the tank until the fish was sold)

Bryopsis is toxic so it can't be Bryopsis, otherwise the Tang would be dead from eating it.

Regardless of the type I wouldn't put any frag with algae on it in my tank.

TBH, I just looked at your build thread, and you put a lot of work into it. It looks Very clean. If I were you, I'd follow Nanareefer's advice, and not introduce any unwanted algae into your tank. If you had a QT, you could observe it 'outside' of your display, and then make a sound judgement. But, if you're buying from the local store, they should be telling you the same thing, and not feeding you the old "It was good for the last fish" story. Just my 2 cents.

    edit
And to be perfectly clear, you don't want Bryopsis. Unless you want to learn all about Magnesium. Then go for it.

Thanks guys thats what I was kind of thinking. Ive noticed a lot of coral tanks at stores have algae issues and was afraid to introduce anything into the tank.

I've used 1/3 H2O2 to 2/3 water dip to kill byropsis off a frag

just as a word of caution: I too have used hydrogen peroxide, however not all corals can take it and you must be very careful with it. Not something I really would suggest many people attempt. I only used it as a last ditch effort to try to save a large monti from MEN and I used much less peroxide
