bryopsys

hello any one know of a way to kill bryopsys or anything that will eat it without removing the rock and drying it out

main reason I ask this is cause it is all over one of my main rocks that has my bta on it and cant realy remove and put in different position

 

If I remember correctly, Emerald Mythrax crabs will do the job.

the actualy hair algae has been taken care of by the tangs but still have a ton of bryopsys looks like a fethery hair alage

 

Did you mean Bryopsis? If so you might want to check your phosphate levels and reduce your feeding and or bio load. Keep up on the water changes and good husbandry. Try to pull out what can. If you give us the parameters of your water it might also help? Are you using RO\DI?

Bryopsis are a formidable bunch of algae to deal with, and in no small part due to their reproductive prowess. They can reproduce sexually via gametes, or asexually via spores, fragmentation or dispersal of 'microthalli'.

Bryopsis are often deemed problem algae in the hobbyist reef aquarium. While addressing the physical presence with manual removal and herbivores, and attempting to slow its growth via denial of resources are important, it is likely just as important to restrict reproduction. Prophylactic filtration of the water (for example, via UV devices) may provide the means towards a shortened effort at controlling any outbreak of Bryopsis.

 

yes using ro water for changes and top off I have tests for everything but phos but when tested else where it always shows 0 even before this crap

Buy an alkalinity and Magnesium test kit and keep your alkalinity at at least 13 dKh and your Magnesium at least 1450 (I.e. above NSW levels) for a couple of weeks. Then do all of the normal things you want to do to reduce nutrients in a system. Trust me, some of us old farts have been doing it this way for a loooong time.

Well Buddy all I can tell you is to save yourself time and aggravation and nuke it all and start over. First off you have to know what type you are dealing with none are easy to get rid of and some like Bryopsis pennata is all but impossible to get rid off Nothing I have found will work .. And I have had my PH at 8.9 to 92 and held it rock solid skimmer is running like crazy about starved the animals to death use ever algaecide I could find I chilled the tank cut off lights for weeks nothing worked.
I Tried sea hares and even laying Ice and pure calcium chlorides on it nothing. Some say Kent's Tech M at 1600 PPM did the trick for them LOL I had mine at 1600 took it to 2000 then to 2500 ppm Nothing .. Had I not been laid up all winter I would have just poured a few gallons of bleach in the tank and killed it all. But that seems to not bother it to much either LOl

I have several plugs right now one in Fresh Tap water one in 1.010 salt and one in in both types of water with 5 ml of bleach added and it all today looks the very same in coloration and stem health I have several plugs in 8 ox of water one tap one salt at 1.010 ans 1.046 and one in normal salt and one in fresh These last two plug I added 5/ml of bleach still looking good will add more bleach tomorrow to 10 ml to 8 Oz's

Now where did it come from Live rock.. Amcarrig used L/R once yrs ago and the Pennata is all that lived She had a scroll coral that we kept I took a brush and bleach and scrubbed all around the base of that coral But I guess one gamete lived ? There are rumors that there are a few slug's that will break it up ? All of the below seems to be what any are reporting that will control the problem.. I'm going to try A few of the different types But there are no mechanical or chemical means to kill or control it . If anyone tells you that they did ! Its not a species of Caulerpa taxifolia .. If I fid a way I'll damn near shout it loud enough so as not have to post it You do the same And if anyone ever touched L/R I'll not let them near my stuff again..

My water parameters are DKH 15 , Ca 600 , mag 2200ppm DKH and ca are never much is any lower Mag will come on down Oh ORP 390's to 360 with Ozone a U/V will do nothing belive that 56 watt did nothing at all.
