ok so i feed my bta yesterday and it looked happy. i fed it a nice sized silver side and i thought it ate it... i woke up this morning and a stripped looking silver side was being demolished by hermits and the bta looked deflatted? what the deal?!

How often do you feed this BTA ? And I'd also ask why do you feed it ? if you have proper lighting for the BTA they need nothing to be fed to them they will eat floating stuff from the water. And if you do feel the need to hand feed it then just a small section of raw bait squid or shrimp throughly thawed and about room temp. and just once a month to six weeks . It either was a frozen S.Sides and to cold or it was full and just got rid of it that is also bad for the tank.

i thawed it out in a cup of tank water for about 20 minutes. this was my first try at feeding it, and yes i have enough light... 96 watt pc ( and 48 watts t5 ho that i will be installing today)

as for my lighting, i think that is a great deal of light for my 15 gallon tank. so i'm not worried about that.

the ss was fully thawed and room temp.

i wanted to feed it once a month as a "treat"

i havent fed it for the 2 1/2 to 3 weeks i have had it.

    params are
    nitrates 15
    amm 0
    nitrites 0
ph was a little low but i fixed that
    calcium 480

I agree on the "You don't have to feed it option" Sometimes I will go a couple of months without giving mine any. I see the Clown fish feeding it every now and then :)
If you do decide to feed it like you said, sometimes smaller portions are best...

maybe that is where i went wrong... so then when i decide to feed again i should cut a piece of the ss or mysis...

Yes, that's what I would do. Try a small portion 1/4" or smaller and see how that goes. Remember there is only one opening. Once it goes in, a couple of days later the undigested parts come back out. :)
