Am I reading your sig correctly? You have 2 clowns, an angle, and a dragonette in a 12 gallon? That's a fair amount of stock in that small tank, so your water quality might not be as high as a BTA would like. That will make them tend to roam, and potentially end up where you don't want them. Plus, there's just not much room for a BTA in that small of a tank.

sorry wrong tank... i do have a bta in that tank as well, but thats not the area of concern. my 20 long is the new tank that i am trying to get a large bta in. i have a skilter 400 converted into half fuge half regular filtration and a built in skimmer running 24/7. i have 0 nitrates, 0 nitrites, the tank has been doing fine so far.its been running for about 3 months and had minimal fish loss. as for the 12 gallon i have had a bta in there for over a year with that amount of fish. i even have a pair of halequin shrim breeding in there.
but the question is how would go about keeping the bta out of the filter intake. i thought about possition of the rocks, but im not sure.

Well, is the problem that the BTA roamed, or that it is "growing" into the skilter? It might help if you could post a picture of the setup, too.

It's a brand name (Danner, I believe) power filter / protein skimmer combo.
