I prefer using emeralds to get rid of bubble algae, and when my tank first got started I had hair algae really bad. The thing that worked the best on removing it was my rock blenny. He loves that stuff once he got wise to what it was, it was all gone in less than a week. It's a pretty common fish and cheap also.

You have to know what species of bubble algae you have first. For instance, if you have Ventricaria, it's once it hit's roughly a quarter of an inch. Look at the link I provided previously for ID'ing.
