I recently noticed a "black ich" infection on my yellow tang. The LFS recommended Herbtana to treat it, so I treated the fish for about 3 weeks, and the infection did not go away. I dosed what they recommended on the directions. They also said to turn the protein skimmer off for the duration of the treatment, which is what I did. Now when I turn the Bubble Magus Nac6 protein skimmer back on it overflows almost immediately.

I have tried everything I can think of to fix the issue.
I checked the air intake to see if it was clogged, and it is not.
I changed the water level anywhere from 7'' to 11'' and that did not help.
I even took the skimmer out and ran it in a vinegar water solution for about 12 hours and rinsed it and put it back into the sump, and that did not work.
Now I have ran the skimmer in my tank over night and it is still overflowing after running for 12 hours.

I think part of the problem is the Herbtana treatment i did to the tank, but I am now lost as to what i should do next.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks,
    -Bobby

Sorry I can't be of much help with your fish issue, but on the skimmer,it's very common for them to go crazy for up to several days after adding certain additives to the tank. After it pulls the additive out,it will settle back down.

Thanks for the replay. Don't worry about the fish. I set up a QT and put him in there, I think he is doing much better and he will return to the display tank in a week or so.

Anyone else have any reasons as to why my skimmer is overflowing??

That supplement is still in your system. The only way to get rid of it is with water changes. Some supplements break down and some don't. That's the reason why its overflowing.

I agree with water changes - perhaps carbon as well for a while?

I tried herbtana for 4 days out of the suggested 10. I did 4 30 percent water changes over 4 days and it still took 7 days to stop overflowing my skimmer....lame!

All you can do is wait it out and do water changes.
