i just finished gluing the first two baffles in my sump for the bubble trap, waiting for the silicone to dry a bit before putting the third. i had originally planned on also putting a "bubble tower" in where the drains for the tank come into the sump.

i am thinking it may not be necessary to put in and may take up more room that a future upgraded skimmer could go into.

    any thoughts, thanks

Most people just run a filter sock.

A filter sock will work, but that is added maintenace. Any food that goes down the drain, gets trapped in the sock. If you don't clean that out regularly, it will be nasty, and create extra waste.

Now I keep some fish for now in my sump. So the bubble tower or gurgle buster for me works well. I have a 1" pvc gurgle buster, but I have the parts now to make a 2" one. That will keep all the microbubbles out. Even with the microbubbles, my sump's chambers keep the bubbles away from teh return pump's intake.
