One of my BTA's has been closed up for about 2 weeks and up until a couple days ago has just remained where it usually stays at night. A couple days ago it ended up moving a couple inches away from where it's stayed for 6-7 months but looks like hell. Most of the tentacles are very tiny little nubs with no color and the tentacles that are left still have good color but are pretty stringy..the foot is attached really well, the mouth isn't gaping but isn't tight like it should be. I've been checking on it daily ready to remove it of need be but not sure if it's sick and can recover or what. I definitely don't want it to foul the tank and kill every thing. Anyone every had this happen?

Added pics... 1st is a tank shot I took last night and the BTA in question looked just like the other one in the center pic up until this incident. 2nd pic is one I just took this morning when lights are still out

that is weird but I'd say it doesn't look good. Obviously you have the tank parameters to keep a healthy BTA - I don't have an idea on what could be causing it. I wouldn't feed it and just keep an eye on it as you have been doing with the thought to pull it if you're sure it's dying.

is that a strange light trick on your substrate or is your sand bed covered in diatoms/ cyano?

if so then something must be wrong with your parameters (nitrates and or phosphates) the Nem does not look good but i wouldn't consider it a goner just yet. it seems to have a firm grip on the rock still.

have you made any recent changes lately? it almost looks like something is feeding on it.

how big is your system? a bubble tip can "nuke" a tank but it would have to be a relatively large anemone for a reduced amount of water volume. I had a large green bubble tip get skimmed and the milky water killed 4 of my fish. i would think if it slowly dies your beneficial bacteria/ filtering system could mitigate the damage but don't quote me on this...
