i just bought a bta from the lfs and i'm concerned that it is unhealthy :( i tried looking online if it's unhealthy or not but i don't know! it hasn't moved at all but it's only been couple of hours. and their tentacles seem too short. i have a 15 gallon tall tank with 72 watts CF 12000k daylight and actinic. all water parameters are fine.

It actually looks like a frag, considering how small it is. To be honest, CF lights generally are not strong enough to maintain BTA, but if he is near the surface of the water, it should be ok. If anemones are not happy, they will float around the tank and not anchor to a rock. Don't force it to move, you will hurt it. Don't worry about the length of the tentacles, they will vary all the time, it's perfectly normal. When they are long and reaching up, that means they are wanting more light.
    How old is your tank?

Looks like it is bleaching as well. You can make up for poor lighting by feeding it mysis.

This anemone does not look healthy. You want to make sure all your parameters are accurate and as stable as possible. It looks like it lost it's zooxanthellae which means it gets food/energy through photosynthesis.

I would try to feed it a a tiny amount of meaty food every couple of days. If it grabs the bits and moves it to the mouth then that's a good sign. Hopefully your water quality is good, light is sufficient and then it should hopefully recover.

You shouldn't have bought an unhealthy looking anemone. But what's done is done. If it is unhealthy just because it has been starving you can theoretically nurture it back to health. But if it is damaged or injured then you have more troubles.

It will probably move as well. It may hide for days so every time you get the chance to try to feed it a bit, you should.

If you change lighting and make it much more intense then acclimating to the new lights may also cause it to hide. Light is a long term issue.

    This is all good advice.
BTW, I kept RBTA's under CF lighting but it was in a shallow tank and fed the nem.

I have an RBTA under 260w of PC lighting, it has stayed up high near the lights and seems happy. It just split yesterday, I've had it for about 20 days and I feed it every other day or so.

IME with it, I think PC lighting is fine for nems as long as they are fed a bit more to supplement:

IME, the OP's anemone doesn't look bleached. There is still a tan color to its disc and the foot is a good maroon color. When an anemone is bleached it will be completely white, the same color as the exposed inner part of the mouth that is shown in the photos.
I still think this specimen is a frag, judging by its size, and is still recovering. Feed it manually, rinsed mysis shrimp, krill, and silversides will help it grow.
Considering the look of the rok in the tank, it looks like a new setup, I hope I'm wrong on that assessment. Anemones should not even be thought about unless the tank is at least a year old or in a tank larger than 20g if on the newer side of 1 year, for water stability.

I agree, the anemone is not bleached. and i also agree that it is more likely to be on the process of recovering from a split. i definately suggest to feed it silversides every other day or so.

Aren't near white BTAs a myth? That's what I have been told but I have no way to be completely sure.
