I want to frag my bubble tip coral and not sure how to do this. I have read a couple sites recomend taking thick rubber band around it wait a few days and where the rubberband was to "chissel" the rock apart. now this coral has 14 mouths and growing smaller onesall the time....

Lets say i try this,(hypothetically) and i take a frag of it place it next to a rock where the bubbles are touchin it would it by chance "spread" to another rock as some polyps do?

Is fraging a bubble tip a risky thing to do?
Hopefully my brother-n-law brings down my 55 wich i will b building up also into a full reef and i want place a frag in there when its all sed and done...........

Any advice or tips would b very helpfull.... thanx in advance....mufassa

What do you mean by bubble TIP coral? Do you mean bubble coral, Plerogyra sinuosa?
If so, yes, fragging can be tough and slow going. Most people do similar to what you described, they make a cut, pull the piece apart a bit, wait a week or so make the cut larger, and repeat until the tissue recedes and heals and you can split the piece. I have also seen people cut right through in a single pass on a diamond bladed band saw but I can tell you I don't feel comfortable doing that! :)

    Good luck!
