Are you saying to fill the skimmer with tank water all the way?

I last cleaned the tubes thoroughly about 4-6 weeks ago. I have not checked them for snails yet...

I'm wondering if it is a siphon issue?

no, none. But I have not tried filling up the skimmer yet all the way w/water... I am going to try that after work today.

I did try stopping the air flow, but as soon as it released the air flow, the same problem manifested.

I started searching other forums  ... haven't really gotten much help here unfortunately.

I found a few other suggestions at some of our competitors forums that I will try too... I tried to find Octopus website so I could ask the manufacturer, but no luck with that either... which is weird... I can usually find that sort of thing on the internets.

    It really really sucks.

Do you have the skimmer on the sump or on your DT? It does sound like some type of weird siphon/draw issue. I would try turning off the pump and then when the unit is filled with water, then restart the skimmer. Cutting the airflow won't break the water flow that is in the skimmer that is drawing the bubbles into the 3rd chamber, ya know? When you get a chance, cut the power to the pump, let it settle, then restart it. If it still happens, check for any obstructions, in the pump too. Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be to get a skimmer to run right, especially after it's been fine for so long. :(

In this last blurry pic, you can make out a dwarf cerith on the piece I am holding. This was down in that hole. I used a toothpick to get it out.

It appears to be working normally now. Will keep an eye on it.

I knew it, stupid little buggers do it all the time! I had one block up my Bak-Pak too, glad you found the problem! I wouldn't have expected it to be in the pump, but at least you found it. :)

so if I wanted to block this... to block it at the pump end would require a semi-permanent solution as you can't easily remove this pump without complete break down...

If I block it where the pipe puts water into the skimmer, same situation basically.

I have a surface skimmer, so I can't really put a sock on the intake.

What I do have is this:

This has done a fabulous job of keeping out my blenny and larger snails... apparently it is not doing the job 100% on the dwarf ceriths...

So looking for an idea around that...
