This looks like it is easy enough and probably effective enough to try before you gut your whole drain system.

    This should help a lot!!!

Only thing is it will require maintenance to make sure you dont clog your floss, but fundamentally it is upsizing the pipe which should make the flow a little more laminar.

Why don't you take your overflow and instead of it going directly to your sump slow it down by going horizontal. look how i have mine set up. it works great with limited bubbles.

I have my overflow going to a ball valve that allows me to control the flow to mu fuge. Then I have the 1 inch going into 3 inch PVC with a cutout @ the bottom. any bubbles return to the surface very little go into my fuge. Then the rest of the water goes to my skimming section where i have it go into a filter sock that is changed out weekly. It works great for my application.

    Hope this helps.

It looks like that might restrict flow. Or at least slow it down. I thought the idea was to not do that. I think I may try to cut the pipe after the ball valve and increase the size pipe.
Seems easy enough. Almost to easy.

Off the cuff I think you could do two things:

First, if you shortened the length of pipe immediately before the 45, you could then twist the whole affair clockwise, which would move it towards the left wall of the sump. It can be pretty effective when you force bubbles to travel further before encountering a baffle. More will be forced to rise to the surface and pop, instead of making it to the return chamber.

Second, get a filter sock. I'd be surprised if that didn't completely eliminate the issue. Just know that you'll have to change that sock every 3 days or so.

    Good luck. :)

It looks like the extra over-sized 3" standpipes with a filter sock inside them really seem to be working well. That looks like the easiest way to do it, and adding the filter sock (say 100-200 micron) will really help a lot to polish the water!!!

It was one of the best mods I did to my tank. It worked awesome exactly as advertised. I would do every tank the same way.

Now the reurn line to the tank. i would just make it go behind the tank and over the top of the tank? same way as a traditional overflow box set up
