For about the past month i have had high nitrates... reading about 40... during that time i have also noticed many bubbles forming in my sand bed and on a few rocks. Nothing has changed in my tank and my tank is about a year old. I have done everything to lower the nitrates with 50% water changes 3 weeks in a row.... I now believe the bubbles have somthing to do with it.

My sand bed is about 3inches deep in a 75gal tank.

I also have a pistol shrimp that keeps the sand bed stirred.. Please help any idea why im having all these bubbles... and is it causeing my high nitrates.

Can you please post an image of these bubbles so we can rule out dino.

    Using RO/DI water right?

Not over feeding? Do you have a sump or fuge you can grow out some chaeto?

I would sure think that since you have changed out the entire volume of water over three weeks the nitrates would be much more manageable.

Detritus accumulating anywhere like in bio balls or lr rubble?

The bubbles are most likely nitrogen unless you have dinos or cyano bacteria. Please post pics as Corailline requested.

Yes i use RO/DI, and it test perfect, i have cut down feeding so i doubt that, no sump or fuge, No bio balls... but i do have LR rubble that my Pistol shrimp collects and stacks in random places in my tank.

And im not sure how to post a pic on here... it always asks for a http:// do i have to select a web site that i post my pic at???

Get a photobucket account, it's free and easy.

Upload the image from your computer, copy and paste the IMG code from photobucket and paste into your post.

A little bit of rubble in the bottom of the tank will not contribute. As member 2in10 posted, it's most likely cyano or nitrogen bubbles.

I have had some Cyano AKA red slime outbreak but i thought that was due to the elevated nitrates.... or does the cyano cause nitrates to spike and my issue is getting rid of the Cyano... but what does that have to do with the bubbles
