I have approximately 1.5 to 2 inches of sand in my tank and through the glass I can see bubbles under the sand. I dont have anything to sift my sand, should buy an engineer goby or leave it alone?

With a shallow bed, you need to either add a sand-sifter or stir the sand manually periodically. If you want a sand-sifter, the engineer goby won't do the job; they only dig tunnels under the rocks to hide in. A watchman goby, such as the diamond, or some nassarius snails would work a lot better.

the bubbles are nitrogen bubbles produced by the anaerobic bacteria under the sand. so really those bubbles are the end product of denitrating your tank.

I would do what Mr. Bill said and just move the sand around with your hand every once in awhile. I don't think that the bubbles will hurt your environment any though. Just unsightly more then anything. If you think about it, if you had something in your tank to sift the sand, all they would do is sift the sand and the bubbles would just be released and "pop" when they reach the surface.
